Those considered having a higher creative mind, have described their thinking process as trance-like. America has entranced herself with visuals since early childhood. Sneaking into her mother’s art supplies and turning common pieces of furniture into canvas at the age of five became one of her first encounters with self-expression. America is most inspired by change. She believes that labels are limitations, keeping us from growing beyond the expectations they imply. She is most influenced by contemporary surrealism and is physically energized by the viewer’s emotional response to images that use unlikely symbols to convey the most relatable feelings. For her, collage is restorative to the mind. It gives her a chance to detach from the constraints of a false reality and reveal authenticity. Graduating from Purdue University with a bachelor degree in visual communication and a concentration in graphic design has allowed her to reach new levels in her work and to successfully balance the fine art and digital worlds.
